Jonathan
Clarke can now be seen as the host of “The Director’s
Chair”on Time Warner Cable, a show all about Indy films
and filmmakers. Clarke is also a recurring guest host with
the MSG Network with recent appearances on “MSG NY
Extra” and “Soundcheck”. For close to two
years, Clarke was heard nationwide across America on Sirius
Satellite Radio’s Classic Rewind channel (#15). In
addition, he also joined Q104.3, New York and America’s
most listened to Rock Station, as an on-air personality in
1997 and continues to be on the air there. Clarke is also
host and executive producer of the highly rated “Out
of the Box,” show on Q1043, a show that debuted over
seven years ago and has remained #1 in the ratings in it’s
timeslot since the show’s inception. He also has a
bi-monthly column in Boulevard Magazine.
Clarke is frequently called upon as a music industry expert
and has been seen on interviews recently that aired on MSG,
CNBC, Court TV, NY1, WABC-TV, and the WB11 and has been spotlighted
in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post , The New York
Daily News and other publications numerous times.
For more than seven years, Clarke’s been showing his
support to musicians with a forum dedicated to showcasing
their latest works in his weekly Sunday night show on Q1043. “Out
of the Box,” a show that spins deep cuts from new CD's
by classic rock artists, new music from newer artists, as
well as music from the garages, basements and lofts of the
many undiscovered artists and bands in the NYC tri-state
area. John Fogerty, Fountains Of Wayne, Heart, Chris Cornell,
John Mellencamp, The Killers, Matisyahu, Russell Crowe, Walter
Cronkite, Noel Gallagher, Michael Stipe, Mark Knopfler, Liz
Phair, Robert Randolph, Bruce Hornsby, Phil Lesh, Mickey
Hart and Pete Yorn are just a few of the personalities and
artists that Jonathan has interviewed.
Prior to coming to Q104.3, Clarke served as Music Director/On-Air
Personality at WDRE/WLIR on Long Island. He was also on-air
at several radio stations in the NYC tri-state area including
WDHA in North Jersey and WPDH in Poughkeepsie.
While on the airwaves for the past 18 years, Clarke stood
out from his peers with his extensive background as an A&R
person, rock historian/ interviewer and journalist. He started
his career as a charts researcher for Billboard Publications
before heading to Arista Records as a national director PR.
During his tenure there, he also successfully signed The
Samples to Arista with Clive Davis in conjunction with his
A&R activities. Clarke also held high level creative
positions at the Hard Rock Live Television show, and I.R.S.
Records with Miles Copeland.
Clarke has also been a contributing
writer to industry trade magazine Hits and Creem Magazine,
profiling various recording stars and industry execs.
An active member of N.A.R.A.S, A.S.C.A.P and A.F.T.R.A and
a singer/songwriter/producer in his own right, Clarke continues
to record/produce original music for himself and other upcoming
artists. These songs are currently being placed in TV, films
and commercials.
